Sometimes a relationship exists between two (or more) topics, and you want to illustrate this on your map. Using the Insert Relationship option you can add a relationship arrow that connects two topics, and include a label if you wish. The default formatting for the arrow is determined by the map's style settings.
Relationships are not shown in Outline view.
To insert a topic relationship line:
Do one of the following:
Click
the Insert Relationship
toolbar button.
Right-click on the map background and choose Insert Relationship.
On the main toolbar click Insert - Relationship.
The cursor changes to the relationship cursor.
Click on the first topic and then on the second.
The relationship line appears to link the two topics.
Relationship lines follow an optimal path by default because their Auto Adjust attribute is enabled. If you move one or both of the topics connected by a relationship, the line will automatically adjust to follow an optimal path.
To change the shape of the line:
Select the relationship then drag the handles.
Note: If you re-shape the line, the Auto Adjust option is automatically disabled. If you want the line to return to its optimal path you can re-enable the Auto Adjust option in the right-click menu and in the Format Relationship dialog (described below).
To format a relationship line's style and color:
Select the relationship line(s).
Use the formatting toolbar buttons at the bottom of the window to set the line's style and shape:

Note: you can select several relationships and then right-click to use the Format Relationship option.
Choose the desired attributes for the line(s).
Use the Style button if you wish to:
Save these relationship arrow attributes as the default. All new relationships created using the current map style will use these attributes.
Reset the attributes to the defaults for the current style.
To add a callout (label) to the relationship arrow:
Right-click on the relationship arrow.
Select Insert Callout.
When the generic callout appears click on it to enter your text.
Hint: You can set an option to prompt for a callout for each relationship you add in the Tools - Options - Edit settings to auto-insert relationship callouts.
To remove a relationship arrow:
Right-click on the relationship arrow.
Select Delete Relationship.
Hint: Use the View - Show/Hide command to suppress the display of relationships.
Once you have added a Relationship you can quickly jump to the topic at either end of the line. This is especially useful on large maps where the relationship spans a long distance.
Right-click on the Relationship arrow
Select Jump to {topicname}. A Jump To command is displayed for the topics at both ends of the arrow.
