The mapping window provides you with tools for integrating your map with Web search tools and Evernote.
You can conduct a search for web content and automatically add topics to your map with links to the results. You can use a variety of sources for your search.
You can also integrate with Evernote by exporting topics to your notebook. You can export the entire map, or only selected topics, formatted as text, or as an image.
When you add Web search results topics to your map, you choose a service to use, the search terms(s) and the number of results topics you want to add.
When you search, a parent topic with the search information is added to the map, along with subtopics for the search results that include a summary and a link to the associated web page.
In the mapping window, select the topic where you want to attach your search topic and results. If you don't select a topic, your search topic and its results will be added as a floating topic.
On the Home tab, click Add from Web.
In the pull-down menu, select the source you want to search for content.
If the source requires it, you will be prompted to sign in with your credentials.
In the dialog, enter the search term, and the number of search results to return. A topic is created for each result.
Click Search.
The parent search topic includes a Note with search information.
Point to or click the Notes icon
to see the search
terms used, the number of results found, and the time when you conducted
the search. You can modify or add to this information in the Notes pane.
The search subtopics show the results of your search.
Each topic includes a Note
with a summary of the resulting web page (point to or click the Notes
icon
to see the summary), and a hyperlink
to the page (point to the hyperlink icon
to see the
link destination, click the icon to open the page). You can add to or
modify the summary text in the Notes pane, and edit or remove these links
like other hyperlinks
on your map.
Note: The search results are static, that is, they are not refreshed. To see the latest results, you must conduct a new search.
You can export topics from your map to your Evernote notebook as a text note, or as an image of the map.
In the mapping window, select the topics you want to clip to your notebook. If you don't select any topics the whole map will be exported.
On the Ribbon's Home tab, click Export to Evernote.
If you are not signed in to Evernote, you'll be prompted to sign in.
In the dialog, select the Format for the note.
If you select Image, the topics are exported as a PNG file.
If you select Text, the topics are exported as an outline.
If you have topics selected on the map, you can choose to export only those topics, or the entire map.
Enter the information for the note, and select the notebook that you want to clip the note to.
Click Clip.
You'll see the new note with your map topics when you log on to Evernote.
